Common ratings include 3 kVA, 5 kVA, 10 kVA, 25 kVA, 50 kVA, and higher. The required rating depends on the total connected load. Primary Voltage This is the input voltage. Common primary voltages include 380 volts, 400 volts, 415 volts, or 480 volts alternating current depending on the regional supply standard. Secondary Voltage This is the output voltage, which may match the primary voltage for isolation purposes or be different if voltage conversion is required. For example, input 415 volts and output 208 volts. Frequency The transformer is typically designed for 50 hertz or 60 hertz operation. Many are compatible with both. Insulation Class Indicates the thermal tolerance of the winding insulation. Class B is rated for 130 degrees Celsius, Class F for 155 degrees, and Class H for 180 degrees. Winding Configuration The transformer can be configured as delta to delta, delta to star, star to star, or star to delta depending on application needs. The secondary may have a neutral terminal if star connected. Dielectric Strength The transformer is designed to withstand high voltage between windings, usually between 2500 to 4000 volts to ensure safety and isolation. Efficiency Efficiency usually ranges from 95 to 98 percent depending on the design and load conditions. Cooling Method Typically dry type with natural air cooling. Larger ratings may include forced air cooling using fans. Mounting Type Usually floor mounted due to size and weight. Some models may be wall or platform mounted. Enclosure Type Can be open type for indoor installation or enclosed type with protection ratings such as IP23 or IP54 for use in dusty or moist environments. Grounding The secondary side can be grounded as required. A neutral terminal may also be provided for systems needing it.
